What is periodontitis?

Periodontitis is commonly known as gum disease. It is an inflammation of the gum tissues around the teeth. It leads to tooth loss.

Periodontal disease of the teeth can be stemmed and if cared for early can be reversed.

It is characterized by a resorption of the gums and a loosening of the teeth. I left untreated the teeth start falling. There is a chain reaction of complete loss of teeth, edentulism, over time.

Conventional Dental Implants for Periodontitis

Conventional dental implants are not well suited for treating periodontitis, gum disease, because they are short and anchored in the gum tissue that is inflamed and resorbing. There is not enough good quality gum tissue to fix the conventional dental implant. Sinus lift, bone graft or bio bone compensation do not fix this problem.

How Gum Disease is treated with Basal Dental Implants

Basal dental implants are the best solution for treating gum disease because they are longer and fixed into the hard cortical bone that is deeper than the root of the teeth. Therefore, It is not affected by the resorption of the gums associated with periodontitis. 

Basal implant dentists usually extract all the teeth that are not stable. Some teeth that are stable like the canines can be maintained and used with the implants to support the dental prosthesis. The other advantage of basal implantology in cases of periodontitis is that all the remaining teeth and implants are blocked under one full dental bridge of 14 crowns. It stops all movement of the teeth and helps regenerate the bone around the roots of the teeth.
